Firmware
BIOS(Basic input output system) of a computer is a Firmware that ensures all the hardware devices attached to the computer are working perfectly.
It works operations such as initializing the device, checking whether all the peripheral devices such as printer, scanner etc. and other component are working fine.
Why should we upgrade Firmware?
- For the motherboard to support a new processor or other hardware.
- Fix bugs and improve stability or performance of your system.
- To change the operating system or if the current BIOS version does not support the new configuration.
Caution: Installation of incorrect firmware update or interruption during the update process may permanently damage the motherboard making the system unbootable.
Upgrade a Firmware
Before beginning the process of Firmware Upgrade
- Note the product number of your computer
- Check the Internet connection
- Keep a blank USB drive
There are types of Firmware Upgrade
1. Using Windows Executable File
2. Using Bootable USB Stick
Using Windows Executable File
- Finding the current BIOS version (use run command msinfo32)
- Finding the Processor type (use run command msinfo32)
- Finding and downloading BIOS update (use system manufacturer website)
- Installing the BIOS update
Using Bootable USB Stick
- Finding and Downloading BIOS update
- Finding the System Board ID in BIOS (From System Diagnostics)
- Opening the Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu
- Updating the BIOS
